A whimsical, colorful box turtle enjoys bright morning sunlight. Each of the 13 scutes has its own unique expression of joyful color.
Made from vintage china, broken crockery and repurposed ceramic tiles, on a repurpsed wooden board.

This is in the "pique assiette" tradition of mosaics, using found and upcycled objects to create a scene or picture with multiple textures.
All my turtle mosaics are inspired by Hazel and the other local box turtles who visit me each summer.
